Role of Multistep Processes in Heavy-Ion Inner-Shell Excitations

چکیده
This Letter discusses inner-shell excitation in collisions of very heavy ions (2, -2, 2 140) in the framework of the quasimolecular model. The importance of multistep excitations and of coupling between continuum states is demonstrated. The lso vacancy probabilities resulting from coupled-channels calculations exceed perturbation theory by a factor 3-5, thus giving good agreement with recent experimental results.

Multiple inner-shell ionization of an atom in a heavy-ion collision and the vacancy rearrangement that follows are fundamental processes that so far have not been adequately described theoretically. The only fundamental theory of multiple inner-shell ionization whose results are widely available is the geometrical model [1]. It predicts that in central collisions (i.e. collisions restricted to ...
متن کاملThe role of inner-shell excitations in electron recombination with complex multicharged ions
We performed an overview of the inner shell excitation phenomena in the study of electron recombination with multiply charged complex ions such as Au (q=49-52) and Pb. It is found the the inner shell excitations play a significant role in the low energy electron recombination. Taking into account these inner shell excitations we have calculated the energy avaraged capture cross sections. The di...

2014 The available experimental and theoretical results on ion induced X-rays are briefly surveyed. From experimental data it may be concluded that the mechanism for inner shell excitation by heavy ion-atom collisions is different from that for proton-atom collisions. The latter are described successfully in Plane Wave Born Approximation (PWBA) and in classical Binary Encounter Approximation (B...

In the current work, the seismic analysis of bent region in buried pipes is performed, and effects of soil properties and modeling methods on pipe’s response are investigated. To do this task Beam, Beam-Shell Finite Element modeling and a Continuum shell FE models of a 90 degrees elbow are employed. In the Beam model, the pipe is simulated by beam elements while combined shell-beam elements a...

Off-shell propagation of nucleons is neglected in one-body transport models of heavy-ion collisions, but it could be significant in processes that are limited by phase space, such as the threshold production of heavy particles. We estimate the relative magnitude of off-shell production to on-shell production of the N * (1535) resonance in heavy ion collisions. In the region where the on-shell p...
